OUR STORY

The Plum Nelly is a unique place designed with the fiber enthusiast in mind.  It was named for the southern expression, "Plum out of town and Nelly in the country".  Originally located in the basement of her home, Iris Nunley, at the tender age of 80, moved the store in May of 2003 to downtown Hastings.  Iris retired at age 85 and Cheryl Jensen became the new owner.

Located "on the corner" at 743 W 2nd Street in Hastings NE, The Plum Nelly carries supplies for all your weaving, spinning, knitting, crocheting, felting and tatting needs.   We carry a variety of looms, spinning wheels, yarns, fibers (to spin, dye or felt), needles, hooks, notions and more.

We offer class and individual instruction.  We also have books and magazines for information and inspiration.

The Plum Nelly is also home to the "Iris Nunley Resource Center for the Fiber Arts".  Named for our founder, this resource center was a longtime dream of Iris, who felt that the teaching and preservation of the fiber arts was important.  Stocked with Iris' personal library (given to The Plum Nelly by Iris' husband, Rick), current and back issues of many fiber related magazines, instructional DVDs, and many rare and out of print books, it is a valuable resource for all, no matter the age or skill level.  The center also has looms, spinning wheels and other equipment for use (rental fees apply) and/or teaching.  The reading materials may be read and used at the center in our lovely upstairs area.  It is our hope that this center will continue to grow and become a major resource and teaching center for the fiber arts.
